This clinical grounding, combined with his ongoing ACAM Fellowship training, positions him at the intersection of general medicine and emerging cosmetic practice.

Outside of his clinical work, Dr Shehab holds leadership certifications from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and the Governance Institute of Australia, contributes to healthcare policy through the Australian Medical Association, and is involved in mentoring the next generation of medical professionals through the University of Melbourne and the Dafydd Lewis Trust.

In 2024, he was honoured to receive the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Victorian General Practitioner in Training of the Year Award, in recognition of his dedication to accessible, high-quality care.

The following cosmetic procedure is offered by Dr Ameer Shehab that carries potential risks. Detailed information about the treatment, including how it works, who it may be suitable for, and what risks are involved, are provided below and discussed in full at your consultation.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections use a prescription medicine to temporarily reduce muscle movement in targeted areas of the face. The medication is injected using a fine needle into specific muscle groups. Effects are temporary and typically last between three and six months, though this varies between individuals. This is a prescription-only medicine. It must be prescribed following an individual real-time consultation (in person or by video).

Suitability is determined during a medical consultation with Dr Ameer Shehab. Note that anti-wrinkle injections are not appropriate for everyone, and this procedure is not performed on patients under 18 years of age.

As with all medical procedures, anti-wrinkle injections carry risks. These include but are not limited to:

  • Bruising, swelling, or redness at the injection site

  • Headache

  • Asymmetry or uneven muscle effect

  • ·Eyelid or brow drooping (ptosis)

  • Allergic reaction

  • In rare cases, spread of the toxin beyond the injection site

Risks will be discussed in detail at your consultation. You will be provided with written information before any decision is made.

Anti-wrinkle injections can reduce the appearance of certain dynamic lines and wrinkles. They do not stop the ageing process, remove static lines, or address skin texture, pigmentation, or volume loss. The degree of effect varies between individuals and cannot be guaranteed.

Individual results vary. This information is general in nature. A consultation with Dr Ameer Shehab is required to assess whether this treatment is appropriate for you.

The Consultation Process

Your Consultation and Care Pathway

  1. All new patients begin with a comprehensive medical consultation with Dr Ameer Shehab. The purpose of this consultation is to take a full health and medication history, understand your concerns and goals, assess your suitability for any procedure, and discuss your options, including the option not to proceed. The consultation will cover the nature of the procedure, realistic outcomes, risks and side effects, alternatives, and the informed consent process. You will be given written information to review.

  2. You are encouraged to take time to consider your options after the initial consultation before making any decision. There is no obligation to proceed. Note that Dr Ameer Shehab does not perform any procedures on individuals under 18 years of age.

  3. Informed consent is obtained verbally and in writing before any procedure. You will have the opportunity to ask questions. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

  4. All procedures are performed by Dr Ameer Shehab at his consulting rooms at Northcote Medical Centre.

  5. Written aftercare instructions are provided following every procedure. Follow-up appointments are available. If you experience a complication or adverse event, contact the practice immediately. Information about how to access emergency care and how to make a complaint is provided to all patients.

Before You Decide

Understanding the Risks

Non-surgical cosmetic procedures are medical procedures. They can have significant and sometimes lasting consequences. While adverse events are not common, they do occur. It is important that you understand the risks before consenting to any treatment.

General risks associated with injectable cosmetic procedures include:

  • Bruising, swelling, pain, and redness at the injection site

  • Infection

  • Asymmetry

  • Allergic or sensitivity reactions

  • Vascular complications (rare but serious — including tissue damage or, in very rare cases, vision changes with filler procedures)

  • Psychological effects, including dissatisfaction with outcomes

The risks specific to each procedure will be discussed during your consultation.

Informed Consent

You have the right to:

  • Receive complete information about any proposed treatment in plain language

  • Ask questions and have them answered honestly

  • Decline any procedure or withdraw consent at any time

  • Seek a second opinion

  • Access your medical records

Consent is a process, not a form. Your consent must be given voluntarily, without pressure, and after you have had adequate time and information to make a decision.

Body Image and Psychological Wellbeing

If you are considering a cosmetic procedure because of significant distress about your appearance, or if concerns about your appearance are affecting your daily life and relationships, we encourage you to discuss this openly during your consultation.

In some circumstances, Dr Ameer Shehab may recommend that you speak with a psychologist before proceeding as part of responsible clinical care. Cosmetic procedures are not appropriate for everyone, and referral to another practitioner may sometimes be the right course of action.

Financing and Costs

Consultation fees and procedure costs will be provided to you in writing before any decision is made. Costs vary depending on the treatment and the individual clinical plan.

Dr Ameer Shehab does not promote or facilitate financing options or payment plans as part of treatment. If you have questions about costs, please contact the practice directly.
